Why MAGAN was founded

Marginalized Group Action Network (MAGAN) was founded by a passionate women activist who recognized the urgent need to address the unique needs and challenges faced by marginalized groups in Somaliland. This visionary leader, driven by a deep commitment to social justice and equality, established MAGAN to advocate for those excluded from mainstream social, economic, educational, and cultural life due to factors such as race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, language, and immigration status.

MAGAN is dedicated to tailoring its efforts to address systemic marginalization, providing crucial support and resources, creating awareness, and building a strong, resilient community. Through their unwavering dedication, MAGAN actively contributes to the fight for equality and justice, empowering marginalized groups and striving to create a more inclusive and equitable society in Somaliland..

What we do?

  1. Tailoring efforts to specific needs: Marginalized communities have diverse needs that differ significantly from one another. For example, the needs of those facing racial discrimination may differ from those who are physically disabled or homeless. Establishing marginalized community organizations allows for a multidimensional approach that can effectively address the specific needs of different groups.

  2. Addressing systemic marginalization: Marginalized communities often face systemic marginalization due to political, economic, educational, and employment factors. These organizations aim to challenge and address the root causes of marginalization by advocating for policy changes, promoting equity measures, and fighting against discrimination.

  3. .Providing support and resources: MAGAN offer support services and resources that are tailored to the needs of the communities they serve. These can include educational initiatives, healthcare services, advocacy campaigns, skill-building workshops, and more. By providing these resources, organizations aim to empower marginalized individuals and improve their overall well-being.

  4. Creating awareness and visibility: MAGAN play a crucial role in raising awareness about the issues faced by marginalized groups. They work to amplify the voices of marginalized individuals, educate the broader society about their experiences, and challenge stereotypes and biases. By doing so, they strive to create a more inclusive and equitable society.

  5. Building community and solidarity: MAGAN provide a space for individuals from marginalized groups to come together, share experiences, and build a sense of community and solidarity. These organizations foster a supportive environment where individuals can find understanding, validation, and empowerment.
